How it's calculated: Position size = (Account × Risk %) ÷ (Entry − Stop-loss). Keeping each position to a small, fixed slice of your bankroll is the single most effective way to survive losing runs and stay in the game.

Bankroll Management 101

Even the sharpest edge is worthless if a single bad run wipes you out. That's why professionals size every position by a fixed percentage of their bankroll — commonly 1–2% — rather than betting on gut feel.

This calculator does the maths for you. It takes the distance between your entry and your stop-loss (your risk per unit), then works out how many units you can hold so that, if the stop is hit, you only lose the amount you decided in advance.

Three rules to live by

  • Cap your risk. Never put more than a small, fixed percentage of your bankroll on one position.
  • Always set a stop. A position without an exit plan is a position without risk control.
  • Watch your exposure. If the position value dwarfs your account, you're leaning on leverage — size down.
